Pets sense the disruption of a move and can get anxious amid the packing and noise. A few thoughtful steps keep them calm, safe and comfortable through the shift.
Before moving day
- Keep your pet's routine - feeding and walks - as normal as possible.
- Get a comfortable travel carrier and let your pet get used to it in advance.
- Update the ID tag and microchip details with the new address.
On moving day
Keep pets in a quiet room or with a friend, away from the packing chaos and open doors. The noise and movement can frighten them and they may bolt.
During travel
Transport pets in your own vehicle in their carrier, never in the moving truck. Carry water, food and any medication.
Settling in
Set up a familiar space first - their bed, bowls and toys - in one room, and let them explore the new home gradually.
