How you label boxes decides how painful (or painless) unpacking will be. A clear system means boxes land in the right room and the things you need first are easy to find.
Label by room, not just contents
Write the destination room on the top and at least two sides of each box - 'Kitchen', 'Master Bedroom', 'Hall'. That way the crew places it correctly even when stacked.
Use a colour code
- Assign each room a colour and mark boxes with a sticker or marker.
- Put a matching colour note on each room's door at the new home.
- Movers can then sort boxes instantly without reading every label.
Mark priority and fragile
Star or write 'OPEN FIRST' on essentials boxes, and clearly mark 'FRAGILE - THIS SIDE UP' on delicate ones.
Keep a simple inventory
Number your boxes and jot the main contents in a notes app. It helps you confirm everything arrived and find items quickly.
