Most people booking a mover in Bangalore have never actually verified a company's registration — they just trust what's written on a website or a WhatsApp message. Here's how to actually check, and why it's worth the five minutes.
GSTIN — how to verify it
Every GST-registered business has a unique 15-digit GSTIN. You can verify any company's GSTIN for free on the Indian government's official GST portal (services.gst.gov.in) under 'Search Taxpayer'. If a mover's stated GSTIN doesn't match their business name on the portal, that's a serious red flag.
Udyam (MSME) Registration
Udyam registration is the government's official small-business registration under the Ministry of MSME. You can verify any Udyam number at udyamregistration.gov.in. A real Udyam number confirms the business is registered as a legitimate Indian enterprise, not an anonymous operator.
ISO Certification
ISO certification (commonly ISO 9001 for quality management) isn't mandatory for movers, but companies that hold it have gone through an external audit of their processes. Ask to see the certificate number and issuing body if a company claims this.
Why this actually matters
Registration doesn't guarantee a perfect move, but it does mean: the company has a legal identity you can act against if there's a dispute, they're required to invoice properly (with GST), and there's a real paper trail if goods are damaged or lost.
