With more people working from home, a home office setup often includes valuable electronics and important documents. Here's how to move it safely.
Back up before you pack
Before disconnecting anything, back up important files from your computer to cloud storage or an external drive, just in case anything is jolted during transport.
Photograph your cable setup
Take a quick photo of how your monitor, CPU, printer and other cables are connected before disconnecting — this makes reassembly at the new home much faster.
Pack electronics properly
Use the original boxes if you still have them, or sturdy double-walled cartons with bubble wrap for monitors, CPUs and printers. Keep cables, chargers and small accessories in a separate labelled pouch, not loose in the box.
Documents and important papers
Keep important documents, certificates and financial papers in your own hand luggage, not in the moving truck — these should never be out of your sight during a move.
Desk and chair
Office desks and ergonomic chairs can usually be dismantled for easier transport and reassembled at the destination by the moving crew.
